Description

Hearty kielbasa rice and broccoli skillet delivers comfort in one pan with Polish-inspired flavors. Polish sausage mingles with rice and green florets for a satisfying meal you’ll crave again and again.

Ingredients

Scale

Main Proteins:

  • 14 ounces (396 grams) kielbasa sausage (sliced)
  • 2 cups broccoli florets (steamed)

Grains and Liquid Base:

  • 1 cup white or brown rice (uncooked)
  • 2 cups chicken broth
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil

Seasonings and Toppings:

  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1/2 cup sour cream
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1/4 cup green onions (optional, for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Sauté kielbasa in olive oil over medium heat until golden brown, approximately 3-4 minutes per side. Transfer browned sausage to a separate plate.
  2. Use the same skillet to combine rice, chicken broth, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper. Bring liquid to a rapid boil, then lower heat to low, cover, and simmer for 15-18 minutes until rice absorbs all liquid and becomes tender.
  3. Incorporate steamed broccoli and previously cooked kielbasa into the rice mixture. Fold in sour cream until ingredients are evenly distributed and creamy.
  4. Generously distribute shredded cheddar cheese across the top of the skillet. Cover and allow cheese to melt completely, which takes about 2-3 minutes over low heat.
  5. Optional: Sprinkle freshly chopped green onions over the dish for added color and mild onion flavor. Serve immediately while the skillet is hot and cheese remains gooey.

Notes

  • Choose kielbasa with lower fat content for a healthier version of the dish.
  • Steam broccoli separately to maintain its vibrant green color and prevent overcooking.
  • Use brown rice as a nutritious alternative to white rice for added fiber and nutrients.
  • Substitute dairy-free cheese and sour cream for a lactose-free or vegan adaptation of the recipe.
