Ingredients
Scale
Protein:
- 1 lb (0.45 kg) flank steak, thinly sliced
Vegetables:
- 2 medium onions, sliced
- 3 garlic cloves, minced
- 1 tablespoon fresh ginger, minced
- 1 green onion, sliced
- Sesame seeds
Sauces and Seasonings:
- 3 tablespoons soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon oyster sauce
- 1 tablespoon hoisin sauce
- 2 tablespoons cornstarch
- 1/4 cup beef broth or water
- 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
- 1 teaspoon sesame oil
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
Cooking Ingredient:
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil (for stir-frying)
Instructions
- Prepare the beef by coating it with soy sauce, cornstarch, and black pepper. Allow the meat to absorb the marinade for 10-15 minutes at room temperature.
- Create the sauce by whisking together soy sauce, oyster sauce, hoisin sauce, rice vinegar, and beef broth in a separate container.
- Heat a large wok or skillet to high temperature with vegetable oil. Quickly sear the marinated beef for 2-3 minutes until it develops a rich, golden-brown exterior. Transfer the beef to a holding plate.
- In the same hot pan, add remaining oil and sauté onions, garlic, and ginger. Cook for 3-4 minutes until onions become translucent and slightly caramelized.
- Reintroduce the seared beef to the pan and pour the prepared sauce over the ingredients. Stir continuously for 2 minutes, allowing the sauce to reduce and cling to the meat and vegetables.
- Finish the stir-fry by drizzling sesame oil and sprinkling chopped green onions and sesame seeds on top. Serve immediately while piping hot.
Notes
- Marinate beef longer for deeper flavor infusion and more tender meat texture.
- Use low-sodium soy sauce to control salt levels and accommodate dietary restrictions.
- Slice beef against the grain for maximum tenderness and easier chewing experience.
- Quickly stir-fry beef to maintain juiciness and prevent overcooking, which can make meat tough and dry.
