Description

Sizzling Chinese beef and onion stir-fry delivers authentic Asian flavors with tender meat and caramelized onions. Savory sauce and quick cooking techniques bring restaurant-quality results to home kitchens for an easy weeknight dinner you will crave.

Ingredients

Scale

Protein:

  • 1 lb (0.45 kg) flank steak, thinly sliced

Vegetables:

  • 2 medium onions, sliced
  • 3 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 tablespoon fresh ginger, minced
  • 1 green onion, sliced
  • Sesame seeds

Sauces and Seasonings:

  • 3 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon oyster sauce
  • 1 tablespoon hoisin sauce
  • 2 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 1/4 cup beef broth or water
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper

Cooking Ingredient:

  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil (for stir-frying)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the beef by coating it with soy sauce, cornstarch, and black pepper. Allow the meat to absorb the marinade for 10-15 minutes at room temperature.
  2. Create the sauce by whisking together soy sauce, oyster sauce, hoisin sauce, rice vinegar, and beef broth in a separate container.
  3. Heat a large wok or skillet to high temperature with vegetable oil. Quickly sear the marinated beef for 2-3 minutes until it develops a rich, golden-brown exterior. Transfer the beef to a holding plate.
  4. In the same hot pan, add remaining oil and sauté onions, garlic, and ginger. Cook for 3-4 minutes until onions become translucent and slightly caramelized.
  5. Reintroduce the seared beef to the pan and pour the prepared sauce over the ingredients. Stir continuously for 2 minutes, allowing the sauce to reduce and cling to the meat and vegetables.
  6. Finish the stir-fry by drizzling sesame oil and sprinkling chopped green onions and sesame seeds on top. Serve immediately while piping hot.

Notes

  • Marinate beef longer for deeper flavor infusion and more tender meat texture.
  • Use low-sodium soy sauce to control salt levels and accommodate dietary restrictions.
  • Slice beef against the grain for maximum tenderness and easier chewing experience.
  • Quickly stir-fry beef to maintain juiciness and prevent overcooking, which can make meat tough and dry.
